Luis' Left Hook
On Sunday, March 22, children and adults alike gathered to hike the trails at Sycamore Canyon Park in Diamond Bar, Calif. in honor of 7-year-old, Luis Merino.
Luis was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy at age 2. At that time, his parents, Sylvia and Luis, set out to make a difference in every life affected by Duchenne. They started raising awareness and enlisting their friends and family to get people talking about Duchenne and participate in fundraising events.
“Our son's life really depends on how fast funds can be raised to help move medicine to boys like him,” says Sylvia Merino on the webpage for the event.
The Merino’s were successful in raising awareness and funds. Facebook was flooded with photos, tags and messages of hope from Luis’s supporters over the weekend. More than 80 people participated in the hike raising more than $5,300 to fund research to cure Duchenne. Click here to view the event video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBs6GMJUiMk
The journey with Duchenne may be an uphill climb, but the Merino Family is leaving a trail of hope behind them everywhere they go.
