In September of 2010, CureDuchenne was selected as Cadillac's featured charity for Super Bowl XLV. With that one decision, Cadillac put CureDuchenne on the world stage--bringing awareness and attention to what was previously an obscure disease.
The Cadillac sponsorship resulted in the donation of a large number of tickets to February's big game in Dallas and a public service announcement featuring Green Bay Packers Defensive Linebacker Clay Matthews. Through tenacity and resolve, Matthews and the Green Bay Packers reigned as Super Bowl champions and a Duchenne hero was born. This initiative by Cadillac resulted in the most successful Duchenne awareness campaign ever carried out and raised nearly $500,000 through the auction of Super Bowl tickets.
On behalf of the entire Duchenne community in the United States and around the world, CureDuchenne thanks Cadillac, General Motors and Clay Matthews for their generous philanthropic efforts and humanitarian work.

Proceeds to fund research efforts targeting Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
DETROIT – Cadillac announced this week a partnership that will allow its Super Bowl tickets to be used to further the cause of Cure Duchenne, a charity organization that raises research funds and awareness for Duchenne, the most common muscle disease in children.
Cure Duchenne, a non-profit based in Newport Beach, Calif., will auction several Super Bowl packages provided by Cadillac. Each package includes hotel accommodations and a pair of tickets to Super Bowl XLV, scheduled to be played February 6 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
The auction runs now through January 24 at charitybuzz.com/cureduchenne. Proceeds will benefit leading edge research that will help cure Duchenne, a progressive form of Muscular Dystrophy. Cadillac will broadcast a television public service announcement promoting the auction, and featuring NFL linebacker Clay Matthews, beginning next week.
“It is an honor to have Cure Duchenne as our charity partner for the 2011 Super Bowl,” said Don Butler, vice president for Cadillac marketing. “The organization has an entrepreneurial spirit that Cadillac is drawn to as a brand. They are not afraid to create their own path of innovation toward new solutions and technologies. Duchenne is a devastating muscle disease in children, and we hope to encourage more people to recognize it and join in the fight.”
Currently 20,000 boys and young men are affected by Duchenne in the U.S. It is a genetic disease that occurs in 1 of 3,500 boys worldwide. Boys with Duchenne are usually diagnosed by the age of five, in a wheelchair by age 12, and may be completely paralyzed by their late teens. Historically, most DMD patients do not live to see adulthood. Duchenne can occur in any family, from any race and from any background. Up until now, there has been no cure, but for the first time there is hope that the current research will result in treatments which will greatly improve the lives of Duchenne boys.
“We are humbled that a major luxury brand like Cadillac has realized the importance of our mission and our boys,” said Debra Miller, who founded Cure Duchenne with her husband in 2003 when her son was diagnosed with the disease. “Cadillac is providing an amazing opportunity to increase awareness and research for Duchenne. Money raised will go directly to research aimed at finding a cure.”

Today, CureDuchenne announced that they have been selected as Cadillac’s 2011 Super Bowl Charity partner. This marks the first time one of America’s largest Fortune 500 companies will partner with a Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy-specific organization to join the fight in finding a cure. Cadillac’s parent company, General Motors, will serve as the official vehicle sponsor of the 2011 Super Bowl, set to take place at the Dallas Cowboy’s stadium in Arlington, TX on February 6, 2011. This partnership will serve as a turning point in creating change through fundraising and awareness for the Duchenne community.
Focused on getting the science out of the lab and into human trials, CureDuchenne was selected by Cadillac because of the organization’s commitment to finding a cure for DMD during the lifetime of this generation of boys. The details around the partnership and how interested parties can get involved will be announced on the CureDuchenne website in the coming weeks, as well as on the Cadillac website www.cadillac.com.
“This is a game changer, pun intended,” said CureDuchenne co-founder and DMD parent Debra Miller. “We’re in a race against time to save our boys and having the backing of a company like GM and Cadillac provides us with an unparalleled awareness opportunity. We’re extremely grateful to have been selected and are honored to be able to say that the money raised through this effort will go directly to funding research headed into clinical trials – our best chance to finding a cure for this generation of boys.”
Chosen for their track record of turning research into promising human clinical trials, CureDuchenne will be recognized by Cadillac amongst General Motors’ other charity partners United Way and Make-A-Wish Foundation, selected by GMC and Chevrolet, respectively.
“CureDuchenne is an exceptional organization that upholds the values that distinguish the Cadillac brand – quality and advanced technology,” said Paul Edwards, Executive Director, Marketing Strategy at General Motors. “Partnering with CureDuchenne provides us with the opportunity to create real strides for the 20,000 boys living with DMD in this country. We couldn’t be more excited about the prospect of helping this organization and its community.”
