From the Desk of Mack Brown...

Dear Friend,

We’re writing to request your support for an amazing group of boys -- boys that have been diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). These young boys live like champions every day fighting for a disease that has no cure.

DMD affects about 300,000 boys worldwide. They lack a protein that destroys muscles, which means they will likely need a wheelchair by age 12, and in most cases won’t survive their 20s. This horrible disease is 100% fatal.

Today there isn’t a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, but on April 27, 2012 you can help. Join us by becoming a Champion for CureDuchenne. We’ll see you April 27 at the University of Texas Golf Club.

Super Bowl XLV

February 6, 2011 by CureDuchenne

In September of 2010, CureDuchenne was selected as Cadillac's featured charity for Super Bowl XLV.  With that one decision, Cadillac put CureDuchenne on the world stage--bringing awareness and attention to what was previously an obscure disease.

The Cadillac sponsorship resulted in the donation of a large number of tickets to February's big game in Dallas and a public service announcement featuring Green Bay Packers Defensive Linebacker Clay Matthews.  Through tenacity and resolve, Matthews and the Green Bay Packers reigned as Super Bowl champions and a Duchenne hero was born.  This initiative by Cadillac resulted in the most successful Duchenne awareness campaign ever carried out and raised nearly $500,000 through the auction of Super Bowl tickets.

On behalf of the entire Duchenne community in the United States and around the world, CureDuchenne thanks Cadillac, General Motors and Clay Matthews for their generous philanthropic efforts and humanitarian work.

DMD Summit

January 27-29, 2011 by CureDuchenne

On January 28 and 29, the top 12 Duchenne researchers, biotech executives and regulatory experts attended the Second Annual CureDuchenne Scientific Summit in Newport Beach, Calif.  Over the two days, discussions were held about the current state of Duchenne research and a thorough evaluation of research projects was conducted. On day one, a closed meeting was held enabling the Scientific Advisory Board to talk freely about their results, opinions and goals and to overlay CureDuchenne’s specific goals.  This process is a key component in CureDuchenne’s unprecedented success in pinpointing and funding the most promising research.  Day two offered parents and the general public “Breakfast with the Scientists.” The unique forum allowed parents and the general public to hear from the panel of distinguished scientists and to ask questions.  The session was webcast worldwide.

This year’s “Dealing for Duchenne” Celebrity Poker Tournament was a smashing success! We had record numbers with over 450 people in attendance. The night’s event helped to raise more than $200,000 that will go towards UCLA DMD Research & Clinic. This is very big news for everyone affected by DMD here on the West coast and Southwest region.

Special thanks go to Amy & Chris Martin who chaired the event. Amy & Chris are experts at putting together an amazing team and making a perfect evening happen. Thank you to everyone involved!
